Week 03- Progress

Meet the internal supervisor

Mrs. Thakshila Adikari working with us as our internal supervisor and we have met her begining of the 3rd week in her office room at Department of Apllied Nutrition. After discussing about the project with her we have clarified our issues in the project outline.

Interact with internal supervisor of the project

After discussing with Mrs. Adikari we have thought to minimize our proposed task because of lacking of time and money.

So now our proposed tasks are,

  • Displaying short videos during meal times that highlight the impacts of food wastage.
  • Doing a stage play to educate the workers or conducting onsite educational and awareness activities time to time.
  • Awareness session by a resource person. Resource person is Dr.Thushanthi perera.
  • Reducing the dustbin sizes in the canteen.
  • Exhibiting posters surrounding the canteen.
  • Establishing a colour coding system. Tokens of different colours can be issued to each employee according to their requirement of portion size (red, green, yellow) in each day. Posters can be displayed in the cafeteria for a better understanding of the colour coding system.

Decided to select Dr. Thushanthi perera as the resource person of the project.

  • We thought it's better to go with Dr. Thushanthi rather than a outside person because she has a unique way to communicate with people and it would be an interesting and memorable session for them. And also we can save money.

Resubmit the revised project outline.

At the end of the 3rd week we have revised our project outline and resubmitted it.

What is Food waste?

Food waste is defined as food fit for human consumption that is discarded, whether it is kept up to the last day or left to spoil. This is frequently due to food spoilage, but it can also be due to other factors such as market oversupply or individual consumer shopping/eating habits.
